The Bible teaches that to pray is to ask God to do what he has promised to do through Christ. Our approach to prayer is often a mix of platitudes and folk religion, rather than an exegetically rigorous account of the Bible’s teaching.

The gospel allows us to pray because God gives to us rather than us giving to God. We ask; he answers. The apostle Peter encourages us to “cast all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7).
Six Prayers
When it comes to prayer, the burden of the New Testament is not on everyday expressions of need; God hears and answers every prayer, but there are only a few to which he always says, “Yes.” The prayers that are always answered positively are those that ask God to keep his promises to us.
1. Glorify yourself through me.
Habakkuk 2:14: As the waters cover the sea, the earth will be filled with knowledge of the Lord’s glory, and all things will be made right in God’s sight by the Lord’s grace (Psalm 119:13).
2. Forgive me.
According to the Bible, if we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).
3. Reveal more of yourself to me.
I will put my law within them and write it on their hearts, and I will be their God and they shall be my people, declares the Lord, and no one shall teach his neighbor, saying, “Know the Lord,” because they will all know me, from the least to the greatest.
4. Give me wisdom.
If any of you lack wisdom, ask God, who generously gives to all without reproach, and it will be given to you.
5. Strengthen me to obey you.
Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, as you have always obeyed, not only in my presence but much more in my absence, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure (Philippians 2:12u201313).
6. Spread your gospel to the lost.
The gospel of the kingdom will be preached throughout the world as a witness to all nations, and then the end will come (Matthew 24:14). How do we know God will answer these six prayers? Because he says he will, and because they summarize his promises.
Ready to Answer
We don’t need to set a timer to grow and mature in prayer; we just need to become better askers and keep praying until the day comes when we will see our great Promiser, Provider, and King face to face.
