The Power of Silent Prayer

Silence is difficult and perplexing; what exactly is supposed to happen when you sit for long, potentially awkward periods of time? I’m still not sure, but I can share some of my own experiences with sitting in silence.

Enough Is Enough

It takes me a long time to get into silent prayer because my mind never shuts off unless I put my foot down and say, “Enough is enough.” Cutting through all the little things that distract our minds and hearts takes discipline and courage.

I Am Not in Charge

When I’m at my best in silent prayer, I have a strong sense that I’m not in charge, that God is in charge, that life is mysterious, and that no matter what challenges I face, God will find a way to redeem them.

Deeper Prayer

The silence allowed God to speak to my heart in mysterious ways, which is the power of silent prayer for me: it creates a deeper relationship with an infinite and mysterious God.
