Praying to the Saints
Many within the Protestant movement have attacked the historic Christian practice of asking our departed brothers and sisters in Christ for intercession, which dates back to the earliest days of Christianity and is shared by Catholics, Eastern Orthodox, other Eastern Christians, and even some Anglicans.
Can Saints Hear Us?
There are some who argue that asking the saints for intercession is pointless because they cannot hear our prayers. However, Scripture indicates that those in heaven are aware of our prayers, as seen in Revelation 5:8 where John depicts the saints in heaven offering our prayers to God.
“No Contact with the dead”
God forbids contact with the dead in Deuteronomy 18:10u201311. What God forbids is the necromantic practice of conjuring up spirits, and God indicates that instead of holding a seance to gain information, one should look to God’s prophets.
Praying to Saints: Overlooking the Obvious
Some objections to praying to the saints reveal limited conceptions of heaven; if heaven were like being in the next room, these objections would be valid; the saints are not bound by the time/space constraints of this life, and thus do not need to be omniscient.
