Prayers In Times of Natural Disaster
Following a natural disaster, you may wonder if there is anything you can do right away to help. There are three options: pray, donate, or become a trained volunteer for the next disaster.
In the Storm
God, we pray that you calm the wind and waves of the approaching hurricane, spare those in its path from harm, and open our hearts in generosity to all who need help now and in the coming days. You are with us in both calm and storm.
Let Our Cries Come Unto You
In the name of mercy and compassion, we pray: Strengthen the resolve of governments and those in positions of power to help. Open our hearts to feel your compassion. Galvanize in us the act of continued giving. Bond us to our sisters and brothers in need. Comfort and heal the injured, the bereaved, and the lost.
An Approaching Hurricane
Blessed are You, Source of Life and Nature, who inspire us to persevere in the face of adversity; keep an eye on everyone, their loved ones, friends, and fellow citizens, many of whom are preparing to evacuate; give them strength, courage, and resolve to weather this storm.
In Our Hearts
Lord, we pray for those affected by recent natural disasters; bless the work of relief agencies and those providing emergency assistance; keep our hearts focused on the needs of those affected long after the crisis has passed; and help us to respond with generosity in prayer, aid, and compassion.
God is Our Refuge
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble, so we will not be afraid, even if the earth should move, even if mountains shake in the middle of the sea; God is in the midst of the city; it will not be moved; God will help it when the morning dawns.
