Matthew 6:5 is the fifth verse of the sixth chapter of Matthew’s Gospel in the New Testament, and it is part of the Sermon on the Mount, in which the proper procedure for praying is discussed in relation to God’s word to man.

Analysis
In this verse, Jesus calls those who make an ostentatious display of praying hypocrites; at the time, public prayers were held at the temple and in synagogues, and those who pray to be seen by others will only receive adulation from their peers.
