What If I Don’t Want to Pray?
Few disciplines in the Christian life are as difficult as private prayer, as even great Christians testify. Consider John Bunyan’s words: “Many times I know not what to pray for, I am so blind, nor how to pray” (Romans 8:26). Sometimes we get into a “prayer rut” and need a fresh awakening to get our prayer lives back on track.
1. Begin every day with God.
“In the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch,” says Psalm 5:3. Henry Ford writes that it is our responsibility to begin every day with God, and that as we prepare for the day’s work, let us commit it all to God.
2. Spend every day with God.
“Pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances,” Paul tells the Thessalonians. Constant dependence is a child’s attitude toward his father. If you are sad, pray to God; if you are happy, sing praises to God.
3. Close every day with God.
“Let this still every storm, command and create a calm in thy soul,” says Psalm 119:8. We should be grateful for God’s provision of rest, a place to lay our heads, and health and peace of mind at the end of the day.
Prayer Begets Prayer
