Six Reasons Why God May Not Listen to Our Prayers
God understands your frustration and provides you with words to pray and examples to follow. Why does God seem to be silent? Is He being cruel? Is He just messing with us? Or are there other reasons?
We Aren’t Christians
Many people believe they have saving faith in Jesus Christ but don’t. In Matthew 7:21, Jesus warns about fake believers. The desire to pray is hardwired into the soul of the believer. If you have doubts about your faith, trust in Jesus.
We Lack Faith
Without faith, prayer is just talking to ourselves. James 1:7u20138 says that the doubter must not expect anything from the Lord. Don’t forget that it is impossible to please God without faith (Heb. 11:6).
We’ve Turned Our Back on God and His Word by Embracing Sin
If you find yourself valuing sin over God’s Word, repent and ask God to create a clean heart and a right spirit in you (see Psalm 51:10). Living in sin is the polar opposite of loving God, because “the fear of the Lord is hatred of evil.”
We’ve Treated Others Wrongly
First Peter 3:7 says, “Husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman.” Matt. 22:39: This is essentially cherishing sin in your heart (see Ps. 66:18) regarding your duties toward other people.
We Are Prideful
God doesn’t want us to pat ourselves on the back for how good we are; instead, he wants humble hearts that recognize our constant need for grace, and he will exalt the one who humbles himself.
We Are Experiencing God’s Discipline
Knowing God as our Father means receiving the Father’s loving discipline, which may include not hearing from God as often as we’d like. God’s firm and gracious hand is always working for our growth and good, even when He doesn’t respond right away.
No Such Thing As Unanswered Prayer
For a Christian, there is no such thing as an unanswered prayer; God always answers our prayers, but not always when we want or in the ways we prefer. Having faith in God’s love and sovereignty will provide fertile ground for persevering prayers.
What does the Bible say about God not hearing our prayers?
1. 1 Peter 3:12 – “For the Lord’s eyes are on the righteous, and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the Lord’s face is against those who do evil.” 2. John 9:31 – “We know that God does not listen to sinners.”
