How Do You Pray When You Don’t Know What to Say

Pray the Psalms When You Can’t Think of What to Say
Psalm 51:10 for spiritual renewal and Psalm 119:133 to seek God’s will for your life are two verses in the Book of Psalms that speak to just about any issue or struggle you may be facing. The Psalms never focus on us as individuals, but on God.
Pray the Lord’s Prayer
When you’re at a loss for words, the Lord’s Prayer is a great place to start.
Sing a Favorite Hymn
Some of my favorite contemporary Christian songs include Scripture verses (or a paraphrase of the verses). Some songs really speak to something on my heart, and through the words of the song, I can speak to God and say what I can’t seem to put into words.
Pray Over One Word or Phrase
Focus on one word or phrase that means something to you right now, and then simply ask God to give you more clarity on that word. Consider Scripture verses or even a song verse that reflects that word/phrase.
When you’re not sure what to pray for, the Bible is always a good place to start because it’s full of powerful prayers to guide you in your conversations with our Heavenly Father. Just start talking, and God will gladly join in!
